Why laminate floors may be perfect for you
If you're looking for a visually appealing and budget-friendly alternative to wood, stone, or tile, laminate flooring may be right for you. These floors are tough enough to withstand the heaviest foot traffic and are low maintenance and easy to install. Until recently, only the original version, which contained wood in its composition, was available, but now there's also a waterproof version.
Four layers fused for durability
Four layers are included in the laminate's construction, including a backing, which provides a foundation. Next is the core and, on top of that is the design layer where you’ll see beautiful images and textures in your laminate wood flooring. Finally, a clear aluminum oxide coating is at the top that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs.
We should also mention backings here because they impact installation. They're available in several materials, but fiberglass is the only one used when the floors float. The fiberglass backing prevents curling issues and won’t contract, snap or warp.

Why you should pay attention to the AC Rating
Different products meet various requirements like many flooring materials, such as foot traffic levels and impact resistance. The AC (Abrasion Criteria) system, developed by the industry and monitored by a third party, conducts extensive testing. AC is a number system, ranging from one to six, and, as the numbers increase, so does the resistance to wear.
For example, AC1 and AC2 ratings are for walls only and low traffic floors. AC3 is most commonly used for residential floors, as it includes all levels of busyness. AC4 is for light commercial use, such as retail spaces, while AC5 and AC6 are for heavier commercial applications, such as shopping centers.
